I have run my '57 Fury about once a month
over the winter to keep everything in working order, but the other day, after
not having started it for about a month it took a dump of transmission
fluid. Not very much, mind you, only about a cup or so. But it was
enough to worry me, so I asked my mechanic, whom I trust a lot, about it.
He said my car had done that periodically when I left it with him to do
paint/body work (while I was gone for a year in Bosnia), and that he also had a
'79 Chevy truck that had done the same thing to him for years, without it ever
meaning anything was broke.
How can this be? With his truck he
told me whenever it did this he simply checked the trans fluid level and added
as needed, which was usually very little. Do the trans seals maybe
occasionally "bulge" or something to allow this little bit of fluid to
escape, without causing real harm, or is this a sympton of a problem that's
immenent? Any answers would be appreciated. . .
