I bought a straight spin on adapter for a 291 hemi from Power Play.

Turns out the adapter fit correctly, but the 291 block has a boss keeping
the filter from seating. It mounts the filter higher on the engine than
original.  I can send a picture if you want.

I don't know if a 56 has the same problem.  Power Play has a variety of
angle conversions that drop the filter straight down like a Chevy. Or you
can remotely mount the filter and add a cooler too.  Let them know what you
have and they will work with you.
