Re: [FWDLK] Mirror-Matic

Yessir - I remember them.  The one on my 59 Plymouth drove me nuts during night-time "city" driving - every time I would go under a street light (like those big "expressway" lights) - the thing would go "click-clack".  At speed, that's about every 4 seconds.  Finally unplugged it.  I guess the windshield configuration allowed some light to get in from overhead as well as from the rear.

As I recall the Mirror-Matic was the first automatic Day Night Mirror - similar to the electronic ones we see today. The concept was originally developed by Singer (the sewing machine folks) and later marketed by Sparton.

The mirror would darken by switching to the "night" mode (flipping the glass prism) when glare was detected coming from the rear.  It was actuated by a relay receiving a signal from the cell on the mirror. I think it was offered as an accessory by Chrysler and GM in the 50s - they made a "click - clack" sound.  Does anyone else remember this?

Hi Folks:
I don't really know what years Mirror-Matic was an option, but I saw this
one on e-bay and thought maybe someone here would also be interested.

It is at $51 right now which seems quite a bargain compared to what I have
seen these go for.
