Even with the proper tool, remember to remove the
nut and washer, then re-install the nut until it is flush with the end of the
axle. Damaging the end of the axle can be avoided if you do this,
because the threaded end of the axle not only is supported by the nut, but if
some slight damage occurs, unscrewing the nut restores the threads. Installing
the nut backwards is another trick.
