One more option for electronic conversions that I have not heard on this list is the Crane XR700 and XR3000. These are based on the old Allison units that have been in production for decades now. They are not 'custom' fit, but they ARE easily adaptable to just about anything, because they use optical sensors that are much less sensitive to mounting conditions than the magnetic sensors the Pertronix uses. They also make them for 6v systems, but I don't know about positive ground, though. Do a search for 'Crane Cams', and then go to their electronics catolog. They have plenty of info online. The cheapest I have found them for is about $85 from carparts.com. I got mine for free from the junkyard (Hint: try looking around at the Triumphs, MGs, etc. These people will do anything to rid their cars of their Lucas Electronics!) I bought the Universal Adaptor kit from Carparts.com for $15. I'll let you all know how it goes with my '57 Dodge when I get it all together. |
