from the California Chrysler Products Club newsletter
Behind the name there's a glorious history under the hood. It all started with a few cans of antifreeze. It was during the 1930's, about the time that Joe Louis reigned as heavyweight boxing champion of the world. A group called the Chrysler Activities Council was looking for a memorable name to put on the containers of coolant the corporation was using in its cars. Eventually they agreed upon a combination of the words "motor" and "parts"--Mopar. And a brand was born. By the 1940's, Mopar was making parts for government and military vehicles. And it was manufacturing replacement parts for millions of Chrysler Corporation vehicles. (the club's source of this copy was not mentioned but it looks old and authentic. L Jett....also old and authentic)
