Re: [FWDLK] 59 Sub floor

John -

Why would you want to paint the floor before welding ?  The best procedure is to weld in the floor (be sure that the metal is clean and rust-free before proceeding), then sandblast, then coat with POR-15 or Corroless (my preference).  If you try to weld in or around either coating, the fumes could be poisonous, especially POR-15.

On a related topic, I just finished detailing the steering knuckle and linkage for the 59 Dodge.  When the frame was sandblasted and painted in '96, I accidently splashed some Corroless on the steering knuckle.  In the course of cleaning the knuckle in preparation for detailing, I tried to wire wheel the old Corroless off the knuckle.  Had a lot of trouble.  That stuff sticks like crazy !  Also less toxic than POR-15, although I wouldn't use either without a respirator.  You can buy Corroless thru the Eastwood Company.

Subject: [FWDLK] 59 Sub floor

Hi all,
I am at the point where we are about to weld in some new floor panels...homemade... and I want to paint the floor with either POR 15 or Corroless before welding new panels on floor.   Anyone have any ideas if one is better than the other?????    I will have to find a dealer for either in any event.   Neither of the parts stores in town have either.
Still looking for a good windshield...or a parts car with a like new windshield.     A Suburban, 4 dr. sedan, or 2 dr. sedan....any will work.   Also, anyone know if anybody makes the seals for the rear quarter side windows for the 4 dr. Suburbans?
Thanks in advance for any info.  Also thanks for the info on window channels and anti-vibration strips.

John in WI
