Re: [FWDLK] Bellows or Canister?

Dave -

No logic, rhyme or reason.  I've seen both types on all cars.  I guess whatever was available as the car was being built.  They are both factory installed.  There was a dealer-installed power brake booster that sat away from the firewall on the left inner fender.  I've seen a few of those in salvage yards and at shows.

Subject: [FWDLK] Bellows or Canister?

Hi All,

I've always wondered about the power brake boosters... both bellows-type and canister type.

On my Plymouth, I've got a bellows-type I scavenged from a 1959 Chrysler.  But on recent trips to yards, I've seen canister-types on a 1959 Dodge, 1960 Imperial, and a 1957 Plymouth.

Every service manual I've seen only includes repair information on the bellows-type.  Was the bellows-type factory-installed, and the canister-type dealer-installed?  Any logic, pattern, or method as to which is correct for a given car, in a given year?

Thanks for any info y'all might have,

-Dave
