My guess would be that there is less room at the rear
of the engine on the driver's side (left) due to the power
brake unit and any other vacuum canister placement...
so front would fit the left, rear unit to the right side.
I don't have any exact knowledge of this, just my guess.
My single carb engine has the aircleaner to the right.
