In Minnesota, we have speedbumps only in some parking lots. They must be too hard to plow snow over in the winter to use them in the street. Snowplow trucks would just scrape them off. They are mostly in residential streets. I guess people were driving too fast in that area (speed limit is only 25mph). The ironic thing is, every car I've ever driven or ridden in seems to travel over them at 30-35mph with more ease than they do at 25 or even 20mph. My fantasy is to some day rent a big bulldozer or frontloader, and just go down the street with the bumps, scraping them up as I go...they've never slowed me down, and all they do is cause un-needed wear on any car that passes over them.
