Hi Jim - If I remember correctly, the car blew up in the background, so they could've used a plastic or urethane mockup. It would make sense to do it this way in case they had to reshoot the scene because the lighting wasn't right, etc. Also if they have to reshoot a scene from earlier in the film that involved the car, it would be nice if they still had the car available to them.
