Re: [FWDLK] eBay.... should implement a better auction end.

In regards to this idea, there used to be a few auction sites that used it.
I'm not sure if the still do, but in my opinion it was a bad idea.

The one site I remember, the auction had have no bids for 5 minutes in order
to close. In other words, if the auction was about to end, and someone bid,
it went on another 5 minutes. If then, someone else bid, it added another 5
minutes. What ended up happening was the large scale inflation of prices. I
saw auctions carry on for an hour or more longer than they we're supposed
to, and the price more than double in that time.

I tend to like the way e-bay works. Bidding quickly at the end is just part
of the "game". Because that's what it is, a game, a risk; for the seller and
the buyers. Learning the rules of the game is the fundamental way to
win...unless you have luck on your side ;-)

Now back to the garage...

If Ebay would change their auction end policy, it would negate the last
minute bidding. One of the other services extends the auction x amount of
time if there is a last minute bid. This takes away most of the advantage
bidding at the last second. This might get everyone bidding when they want,
knowing there will be fewer people waiting until the last second.

They could even make it optional for the seller. Some people selling a lot
of stuff may just want it all to end together so they can manager their
auctions, others might like to let them extend.

Ebay is a TIMED bidding event, NOT an auction, where final "fair value,
last call" is observed, before the bidding is closed.
