Scott, The 1962 to 1965 aluminum TorqueFlights all use pushbutton shifters. They will work fine with your original 3 speed pushbuttons. They will even work with the 2 speed PowerFlight buttons. The pushbutton end of the cables are all the same. The tranny ends have a couple of different styles, so you may need a new custom built cable. I assume you are using a 318 in your Plymouth. You will need an adapter (commonly available) because the crankshaft is different. If you have a B series engine, you are out of luck, unless you are willing to swap your crankshaft to a 1962 or newer version. Your current driveline has the park/emergency brake on the tail of the tranny. If you want to retain a park/emergency brake, you need to find a 1962 Chrysler 727 with the brake drum on the end. Transfer the tail housing and shaft from this tranny to a 62 to 65 small block 727. Another option is to swap the rear axel brake assemblies to a newer version with emergency brakes and rig cables. The driveshaft may need to be shortened. The tranny mount may need relocating. Etc. Has anyone on the list upgraded to a later *SMALLBLOCK* aluminum case Torqueflite from an older cast iron unit and been able to retain the original 3 speed pushbutton setup? If so, what year and body style did the tranny come from? It's for a '58 Plymouth if it makes any difference... Thanks!
