Ron, what state are you talking about? Is it Pennsyl-tucky? That's OK- I live in the state of Confusion. If you 'know' what "celebrity" you think owned the car in question, get on that newfangled thang, the intranet, and research the 'guy'; mebbe he's got a fan club (I know I've got one!) that you can 'ask' about "the car", AND, some people (Roy Rogers & Gene Autry & Clayton Moore--who??) [while they were alive] ) I have been able to contact, directly, regarding obtaining their autographs onto postcards I bought. DMV records can be difficult to research, now; I contacted OR DMV, years ago, Re: history of the D501 that appeared in Rod & Custom, 10/58, & still have their 'negative-finding' reply. I forget CA's statute-of-Limitations on retaining car license info (when you used to be able to do such research) , but recall that that time-period is NOT 'very-long', once a license plate is abandoned. So who do you suspect the celebrity-owner to have been?
