I swapped the intake on a 1961 New Yorker 413 to an Edelbrock Perfomer
aluminum intake a few years back. This car had factory air. The compressor
sat to the left side of the thermostat housing but the main bracket spanned
to the front right intake bolt. The bracket was thick steel and wouldn't
clear the intake runner. A little Dremel work to the thick aluminum and
everything fit like a charm!  I did have an aftermarket breather so I am not
sure of any hood clearance issues. I no longer own this car but thought I
would share a little personal experience.
