Nate, The tail shaft/housings should be interchangeable for all 1962 - 1965 727s, regardless of A or B engines. These years also used pushbutton shifters. In 1965, the 727 also had a slip yoke if you want that. Major items you will need for a 727 swap: 1. A 727 from a small block. 2. An adapter to relocate the alignment dowel pins, and crank hub adapter. 3. Modified or shortened drive shaft. 4. Tranny cooler. 5. New shift cable compatible with a 727. 6. New speedo cable compatible with a 727. The early 727s used a rear pump that was eliminated in the later models, so you will have to keep that in mind when you swap transmission parts around. It may easier to find a 727 trans out of a small-block police car or taxicab (heavy duty application), A 340 powered Dart or Duster would likely have one also. You could use a big block trans if you swapped the front case of your pickup trans into it, lots of pieces to move around, be sure to check for proper endplay etc. when you assemble it.
