Re: [FWDLK] what brand of brake drums do you recommend

Lou, you didn't mention the "application" for your 2 1/2" rear drums,
but those drums can be bought dirt-cheap, from any wrecking yard (avoid
the frou-frou ones that advertise in Hemmings!) that have a late 60's,
or early 70's MoPar sittng around--or, that have access to a muti-yard
communication system.
These drums are the Bendix "Duo-Servo" ones, and they can be
very-easily adapted to fit onto your FWDLK rear axle. Their brake shoes
can be re-lined with the Firm Feel "carbon-
metallic" material. Just make certain that the rear drums can be
"turned/trued" , if necessary----because rear drums don't do much
'work' , the used drums you get (as long as they don't qualify as
USCG-certifiable boat-anchors)
should be very-restorable. If you feel adventurous (don't know if
you've got a DeSoto
though) you can also get the 2 1/2" front brakes
off of a 63 - 64 MoPar (but also get the backing plates & steering
knuckles, too) and install THOSE guys, as well!
