When I worked at a dealership back then (late 60s/early 70s), - these were
called "Sales Bank" cars, - and you might find *anything* in the Sales bank.
Mis-matched interior/exterior colors, - wrong emblems etc. You could also
end up with cars that had been damaged and (sometimes rather poorly)
repaired. I remember a 69 Newport HT that had such a poor fit between the
A-pillar and the front of the door glass that you could stick your hand
through the opening, - and no amount of glass adjustment made things any
better (no idea how the windshield stayed in there).
And, often, the poor "Factory Reps" ended up driving these things.
'Course more than a couple of these "poor factory reps" ended up driving
Plymouth Superbirds too. If I had not thought that these cars (the
Superbirds) were the epitome of ugly, - I would have bought one in early
'71. Factory rep car, - less than 13K miles, Hemi/automatic. Seems to me
the price was less than $3000.00(!)
Ah yes, - hindsight...................
