-------- Original Message --------Dear Lou. Thank you for your interest in my '61 Dodge D/500. It is always good to hear from people such as you that also share the same interests in these fascinating and truly unique vehicles. I see that you also own a '59 D/500? In regards to your questions concerning the validity of this car, I can not claim that the production figures are correct, nor have I intended to mislead that the total production of just 3 of these units built in this form, are an accurate total.. The production totals are only speculation given to me from Chrysler officials. Also, the information given to me regarding the actual shipping destination has not been documented. It is however, not a Canadian built model, as one would expect. However there are several trim items on this car that are specific. For example, the grill does not have a 'cut out', or area for a Plymouth nameplate to be installed. The front fender moldings are also specific, as they end in a taper, just ahead of the doors. This treatment was not found on any '61 Plymouth models, as one might suggest. Interestingly, the interior panels are the same as those found in the '61 Plymouth Fury's. The dash and seats are similar to the American Dodge produced cars. This was also the case for the '61 Dodge Darts built in Canada, with the exception of the the dash areas, that were full Plymouth. Actually, this 'swaping' of parts was really nothing new for Chrysler Corporation. It was not uncommon to find for example, a '59 Dodge with a '59 Plymouth front end section, or a Valiant with Dodge trim. The car was discovered in a field in Pennsylvania aprox 4 1/2 years ago, and not registered in the US until 1969. Currently, the car has been documented by Hemming's Classic Car Magazine, and will premier in the 2nd issue sometime this fall. Unfortunately, there are always a few that can not accept this car for what it is. In this case I can name, names including a particular member of your Straight Eights Chapter. I am not an vindictive person, so I feel that name calling is not necessary. Just the same, it is somewhat expected, as it is usually these people that do not own a vehicle of this caliber, and need to justify there own short comings, and poor quality restorations. This car has been on tour and shown in several states this past year. It has consecutively taken every 'best of show' award, including multiple "Chrysler only" shows. Please inform the so called 'nay sayers', that rest assured, that if they put the same amount of energy in there own cars as they have put into there efforts to criticize my car, there vehicles will also be of concourse quality. Heh, guys, sit down, chill out, and enjoy the hobby as it was originally intended! Thanks for your interest. Best Always, Paul Garlick ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go to http://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1 |
