Hello all,
I think Dave's intentions are basically good with his request for a new
printer but please be advised that his explanation of the printer's problems was
incomplete! I would not have written this if he had not brought it up in
his email but since he did let me fill in the blanks.
Dave agreed to supply the calendar layout in Publisher for the
2003 calendar in a "ready-to-print" format by a specific date which was not met
and the printer did not receive all of the information until late in
November and early December. When it did arrive the composition layout had
been modified with another program - by someone else as I
recall - and was incompatible with the print process that had been agreed to and
set up at the printer.
This problem required the entire calendar to be reformatted including each
and every picture by the graphics design people at the printer's office
resulting in more than double the time that was in the original estimate and of
course missing the target dates by a mile. Subsequent problems in UPS
pickups, deliveries and collecting money from Dave resulted in the printer
refusing to do any further business with him.
It will be important for anyone getting involved in the calendar this year
to realize that the dates and quotes must be linked and agreed to a specific
graphics program to assure compatibility and ultimately result in timely
delivery of the product. This agreement should be spelled out in a
written contract signed by both parties. Unfortunately we did not have a written
contract and relied solely on the verbal agreements
made beforehand.
I was involved with a very good friend in the printing business and we
printed the Forward Look calendars for a couple of years but will no longer do
so.
I hope this doesn't stir up a hornet's nest of back and forth accusations -
which we do not need, however there is always more to a story than what
appears.
For anyone requiring detailed information re: dates, dollar amounts
and communication copy please contact the printer direct at:

Subject: Calendar Printers Needed
Hi
All,
Calendar
preparations are underway, and it's time to start looking around for a company
to do the printing. If you are involved in the printing trade, please drop me a
line.
I'd like to see
basically the same format as the 2003 calendar -- spiral wire bound, and
drilled for hanging. It will be in Publisher 2003 format. We will
also need to set a timeline and price that MUST be adhered to. We can
deliver the files the first week of November, and will need the finished
calendars during the first week of December. (For those of you who are not
aware of our past printer issues, we had a print house that did not
deliver the 2003 calendars until mid-March, and at twice of the agreed
upon price...)
I can deliver a
sample of a finished 2003 calendar and Publisher files for anyone who
would like to give us a quote. (Please only recommend printers you are
-very- willing to support. If the calendars are delivered late, I -will-
point people to you for explanations.)
Thanks,
-Dave
