Hope I’m not being redundant but just to kind of reinforce what Dave explained so well “The clip doesn’t come off”. The clip stays attached to door handle/window handle so when you’re pushing the “tool” against the clip keep a pulling pressure on handle. (the first time I removed a handle I expected the clip to come popping out) Sounds like Joey found the right page in his manual but if anybody else is interested there is a picture of the correct tool on page 405 of the ’57 ’58 Plymouth Service Manual. Picture of tool includes dimensions and using these measurements and picture I made one. Works well. I would think manuals for the other makes – Dodge-DeSoto-Chrysler - would also have this diagram. Bend 1/4" of the tip of an old butterknife up at a 90 degree angle -- that's pretty much all you'll need.

The tab is like a square that fits in a groove on the shaft. When you slide the tab in towards the shaft, it releases the other side of the tab from the groove in the shaft, and it will come off. After you do the first one, the rest are easy. You just have to understand how it works first. Find the springy side of the tab, and push it towards the shaft. The clip won't come off, but it will move about 1/4" in. towards the shaft.

The clip looks something like this picture (if it goes through the listserv)

It there a way to remove door panels with a home tool? I used a screw driver to slowly dislodge the clips holding panel to the door. I did a good job not hurting the panel or the door. The hard part I have right now is removing the interior handles. I was following the instructions in the book I have. I just can't see what on the handle has to get loose.

The instructions in the book are as follow:

INSIDE DOOR AND WINDOW REGULATOR HANDLES

The door and window regulator handles are attached with a spring type clip.

Turn window regulator handle down so that the retainer clip is to the left. Place tool between washer and handle. Push tool from left to right and at the same time pull outward on handle.

When I look inside of the door panel I can clearly see the spring clip but the retainer.

Is there any home tool I can use to remove the handles?

And I don't want to use the Grinder..
