[FWDLK] 1959 DeSoto Firesweep Shocks -- thanks! Now a heater valve question...

Hi All,

Thanks everyone for your responses on the shocks.  The gist of it was:

KYB:  KG5511 Rear & KG4507 Front (with slight modifications)

Monroe:  20702 Rear & 5811 Front (with slight modifications)

I picked them up at my local Advance Auto Parts and got the rears installed tonight, and I’m going to go out and do the fronts shortly.  I can tell already it will make a huge difference.  The rear is sitting about 3-4” lower than before – closer to the correct ride height.  I’m not sure what the previous owner was hauling, but there were 7-leaf springs PLUS coil-overs on the rear.  It sat pretty high…

I also put in a new heater valve this weekend and noticed the strangest thing.  The new valve is identical to the old (a Ranco something-16 I believe) in appearance and part number.  However, this one works the exact –opposite- of the original.  Full warm on the lever is off, and full cold on the lever is hot.  Has anyone ever seen this with a Ranco valve?

Thanks again all for your responses!

-Dave
