You should always replace the seal unless it is brand new or recently replaced already. I knock 'em out with a screwdriver and hammer from the front side. Putting them in is a little more delicate, a little smear of sealer around the outside and start it gently with a few taps around the rim, being careful not to deform it, or a flat round plate slightly larger than the O.D. of the seal- once it starts straight, you tap it in even until it seats in the bore. You need a 'timing cover gasket set' which usually consists of a gasket and seal. Should be pretty common once they find it in the 'old car' book or the computer, probably the same for all 350-440(????) 1958 on?? Good luck and have fun! -Bob -----Original Message----- From: Forward Look Mopar Discussion List [mailto:L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Bryan Scott Sent: Sunday, December 04, 2005 5:37 PM To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [FWDLK] Oil seal for the chain case cover Hi all, I just removed the chain case cover on my 58 Fireflight 361. From your experience, do I need to replace the oil seal as part of routine maintenance, or is that not usually a problem? If replacement is recommended, how readily available are the seals? The service manual shows a special puller to remove and reinstall it. How have you folks removed and installed them in the past (assuming the parts for the puller are not available)? ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go to http://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1 ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go to http://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1
