All, I have my entire car (1956 Plymouth plaza (P-29) 277 v-8) put back together. When I purchased the car, I drove it home. Now, when turning it over, the starter seems to be loading up and turning with resistance. I've inspected my wiring and it's original cloth coated with several bare areas exposing green (corroded copper) wires. There were no shims between the starter and trans during disassembly so I would like to assume it doesn't need any now. I expect it's either the wiring or maybe just a bad battery. I compared my wiring against a factory schematic and found something different.
Mine is set up as follows... + coil to horn relay/ ign switch + coil to b. resistor - coil to distributor B. resistor to Solenoid The schematic shows it as follows... + coil to horn relay/ ign switch + coil to radio condenser (which I cannot find on my car, except on the generator) - coil to ballast resistor B. resistor to distributor Is it possible that both ways will work? If I switch the wires to the wiring diagram, I want to make sure I don't destroy some electrical components, or burn my car and garage to the ground. Thank you, Matt
