I read the original article in the Christian Science Monitor some years
back.  Shortly after the invasion and takeover of Baghdad when looting
was rampant, Hussein's palaces were being looted of everything that
wasn't either bolted down or white hot. 

In the main palace was his car pool, which contained several classic
cars.  The article only mentioned a pink 55 Chevvy, a Mercedes, and a
Rolls specifically.  Looters were grabbing the car keys and trying to
steal these and other cars, but curiously, the gas tanks in most of them
were empty.  An officer in charge ordered the cars pushed into an open
area, and ordered one of his tanks to roll over them and flatten them.
The article specifically said that it took about 5 seconds to reduce the
55 Chevvy into a pink pancake.  These flattened vehicles were then
dragged to the gates where they were used as barricades.

I hope this is one of those false stories someone created just to get a
stir 
out of people...

I don't know the old American cars would make very good car
bombs...these 
aren't dinky little yugoslavian cars they'd be trying to explode.  I'd 
expect the result to be more like that VW commercial with the suicide 
bomber.
