Not so at all.
See part number 1819-767-Package, Speaker, for Dual installation. 57-58 Plymouth, Dodge, Desoto, Chrysler and Imperial.
I have an installation sheet for this package but it also says in big letters "REAR SEAT SPEAKER PACKAGE LOCATIONS-WHEN REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER IS INSTALLED, SPEAKER OR SPEAKERS MUST BE LOCATED AS SHOWN". The diagram shows dual rear speakers on the left and right side-just where you would expect them to be for good sound.

The setup you have in your Chrysler was the top of the line in 1957. There was not a two speaker package available. If you didn't have the defrost, then the speaker you have would have been in the center of the real shelf. Having one rear speaker in 1957 was considered a big option.
