I'll just chime-in here, earlky-on (gotta get to work--you other guys DO remember what THAT"s like?)-----I've used various brands of 'steel-wool-scouring-pads, for DECADES, now, after early-on discovering that "Westley's Bleach-YELLOW " , just wasn't "up" to the task. NEVER had any adverse recations, including on my beloved Diamondbacks---whose BIGGEST threat is CURBS! (or, more precisely : MOI, et CURBS!) Also, "we" are being "informed" nowadays, that tires should be replaced about every 6-8 years, due to chemical-breakdown/hardening of the 'rubber'-case. So, my mind (what's left of it) boggles at the concept/idea/propaganda that scouring-pads are somehow deleterious to whitewall/tire substances. Easy, simple, efficient, CHEAP, safe procedure. But what do I know? Only been doing this, to four sets of tires, since 1980.
