You can find in a really good parts store(not a chain type,unless it's NAPA
with good counter people) what is called a conversion joint. It's a u-joint with
2 different size caps and one way on the + is longer than the other for
such applications,check around you may find one. As for changing the yoke,it's
easier on the earlier centers without the crush sleeves (pre '70),the hardest
part is finding the yoke you need,the was fine and coarse spline yokes in both
early and late year centers,plus 7260 and 7290 joints in both styles. Make sure
if you use a 742 housing you get a yoke from a 742,not a 489. It will not
interchange.
