A drive on Saturday, Sept. 29 to the campus of University of Notre Dame
-- and the visit has nothing to do with football because the Fighting Irish are
on the road themselves that day.
However, Notre Dame's Department of Art, Art History and Design will host an
exhibition called Exner Era Automobiles, showcasing vehicles created when Virgil
Exner was at Studebaker and later in charge of the Chrysler studio. In addition
to specially selected Exner-designed vehicles, various Studebaker and Chrysler
car clubs will have their vehicles on display.
The car display runs from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the grounds around the
Stepan Center and will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by a lecture by British
automotive historian Peter Grist, author of the newly published book Virgil
Exner, Visioneer. Virgil Exner Jr., himself an accomplished automotive
designer, also will be in attendance.
