Hi, Mike: there is nothing to "stabilize", about the car.
Rust/corrosion is not really a living organism, feeding off of another
living organism (despite popular analogies/mythologies). If the car is
not to be re-submerged in a moist/humid/salty
environment, it's not going to turn to dust, or rust. The family is making a colossal, monumental error, in not arranging to sell the car to someone, who could preserve/ display it in its as-unearthed condition, as an historical artifact. Removed of its magnificent patina, it's just another hulk. Neil Vedder Michael Sutherland wrote: Howdy, Neil: The car's history of ownership is not in jeopardy; it may be the only rock-solid thing about the car. If you mean they will destroy the car's originality, that might be argued. I still think the nasty grime does nothing for the car's originality. After all, the water came in afterthey buried it.If Ultra One can clean it, stabilize it, and preserve what is left of the car's originality - more power to them. I think it might be the only opportunity for the sisters to experience some of the intended windfall of the contest. The $600+ probably didn't cover the cost of their trip. I don't know what arrangement they have with Ultra One, but you can't blame the sisters for wanting a little something after winning a big contest like that. We could talk all we want about how the car is worth $XX,XXX as it sits, but just try to get somebody to pay that! As it is, if they offered to sell it to me for $500, I would have to think about it and get back to them.
