Jim, have you seen the 1955-1956 oil bath air cleaners?
In 1957, IMP wanted to be the big-dog, on the block, so they installed
the third 4-bbl carb on top of and between the two outboard carbs, in a
"Pagoda" style (hence the "Palace" model name), with an early version of
the "power bulge" hood; the car was to have competed in the Mexicano
Road Race, from Sammy Hagar's resort in Cabo Wabo, to the Tequila
Sunrise resort just south of CA, in San Yskidrow.
Unfotunately, only 102 were bulit, before NASCAR broke 'wind' of the
event, and realized that the Chubbies were out-powered,
and so told Chrysler to fuggedaboutit.
So, most of the models were exported to Mexico, and it is roumored that
Paul Garlick has located one and is presently restoring it, as we speak.
Reportedly, the car will be featured on the MacGuire's infomercial : Cur
Krazy.
And, oh yeah, the car's production date was
April1, 1957.

To amplify a tad on what Ron said, in the late 50's the D500 models came
standard with a single 4-bbl carburetor, with the second carb being
optional "at slight extra cost".
Although actual production records are speculative, the fact that
virtually (hardly-) no OEM Super D500's still exist, among the rela-
tively many D500's out-there, speaks eloquently as to the choice that
the buying public made, if given a choice, as to whether they really
needed & wanted their car to have a second carb, or not.
As we all know, the 2-carb set-up was standard equipment on the Fury,
Adventurer, & 300 models.
Of course, the very rarely seen Imperial Palace model had three 4-bbls,
but that was really only an advertiseing scheme, to up-stage the
Cadillac Bizarre-Retchs' three dueces.
