Went to exercise H. today, and thought that his recently overhauled fuel
pump might
be going bad, as it felt like a carburetor accelerator-pump
hesitation, or trannie
slippage was making him not want to move out, from a stop (altho the
trannie engages
immediately from gear to gear, and the 2.76 rear end also makes for a
lethargic start-up,
in Drive).
Pulled into mi oficina's parking lot, popped the hood, played with the
accelerator linkage,
and was startled to see gas spraying (almost pouring) out from under the
short rubber fuel line
that connects the metal gas-line, at the passenger's side inner fender
'apron', to the fuel
pump's inlet connection.
I say 'startled', as that line is only a couple-few years old, nothing
traumatic had happened
to the car, in the intervening years, to cause the MULTIPLE crackings
which had developed in it,
and CA gas (our local brew, anyway) is not supposed/advertised as having
any/much alkie in
it, AND, that fuel line was supposed to be modern/alkie-resistant.
Anyway, as I am universally beloved in this burg, a local shop gave
me a free sample of their
fuel line stash, and their mechanic told me, that on his mid-60's
Galaxie (!), he replaces 'that'
section of fuel line on an annual basis!
So, this is an easy/simple maintenance chore that I recommend be
performed asap, before you
become stranded on the side of the road.
