Re: [FWDLK] 315 vs 325??

Bill, a certain number of the 102 D501 cars which were built carried
an engine stamping prefix D501-1xxx, which was in addition to the cars
which had the KD501-1xxx engine prefix.

The 56 500's all carried the prefix D500-1xxx , so that there should be
no confusion with 1957's KD500, or the KD501 or D501 (the latter being
354 c.i.) engines).

The D500-8181 would be a 1956 engine - a 315-cid hemi to be precise, and is the 7,181st one built.

The KD500 engine would be a 1957 engine - the "K" is Mopar Engineering Dept.-speak for the 1957 model year. And the engine would be a 325-cid hemi. The 354-cid engines were D-501 models, and thus the engine numbers would have a "KD501" prefix.

It sounds to me like someone is confused a D500-8181 would be consistant
with a 1956 D500 engine, the casting number on the block would be correct
for both years of Dodge engine D500s it should have a date on it as well. I
have a 58 Coronet engine with the same casting number and it is a poly, so
the ID number is the key. A 354 engine would not have that casting number,
hope this helps Tim

    D-500 8181 - This is a D500 made in Detroit. 8181 is probably the
numerical sequence of this engine in the D500 production. According to my
references, this is only a 354 cid engine
