Basically find a '56 Chrysler donor car. The gauges, switches, gen,
starter, seat motors, etc etc should bolt right on to the '55.
The big question is why? Ass-u-me-ing you're not going to race, and aren't
interested in things like spark dwell at high rpm, the six volt system
should work fine.
There is a compromise; 12 volt starting and generating system with a
converter box to run everything else on 6 volt. These used to be readily
available, don't know if they are now.

If you have a 6 volt unit already just have it redone in 12 volt
configuration, it is done all the time....If not contact me off line I
have a whole PS set up to sell for a New Yorker...
