Voltage regulators on generator-equipped cars were mechanical units with
points that needed cleaning and resetting after some years of use. The
service manual gives instructions on how to adjust the regulator. An auto
electrical shop should be able to do the job. Would check that route out
first before tracking down and purchasing a new unit.
