Re: [FWDLK] 58 color

Good advice -- NEVER try to match paint codes by the old chips.  They were meant as a rough reference only, not for color matching.  I have sold around 500 sets of chips on eBay, and even from the same manufacturer, every chip looks different than the next.

Try http://www.autocolorlibrary.com to get the correct paint codes.  It's part of PPG, and they have all of the chips (for reference) scanned in, and you can pick the color to get a modern formulation code you can take to your favorite paint supplier.

Subject: [FWDLK] 58 color

a few people replied last time to a color question with a helpful link to factory color chips, perhaps the same info can be brought forth again,

i have a customer's 58 plymouth wagon in, it sports decent original paint on a rust free CA body, however it will undergo a near full resto re-starting in a week or 2.
the color appears to be the bronze used on the hardtops in the original plymouth promo ads, though somewhat faded, it can appear gold, however the color revealed under the heater housing gaskets leans towards a pinkish bronze.  any thoughts on the original color name or code?

2 photos by means of the following links.  feel free to browse the rest of the photobucket as well.
