I don't think so....more likely they were a running-change to the seats; look WAY too
professionally-done, and fitted to the seat tracks

The seat was still way-low, even with the wood strips installed; they were not, really "blocks" of
wood.

Dave's 56 HAS chair-height seats on it; without those seat wood raising-strips, you'd recline like
you were sitting in a Ferrari

A buddy of mine bought a 53 Olds 98 2 dr ht from the original owner little
old lady who was about 4'11". The power seat still needed 2 inch wood blocks
under it, so at max height, she could see over the dash. She said the blocks
were installed by the dealer.

On my 57 HT, decades ago, I noticed that the factory/sub-contractor had
installed about 1/2" tall wood
blocks under the manual seat's 'legs-bases' in order to increase the
height of the seat.

The car was built in late March; I don't know when this non-adjustable
seat height increase was instituted.

I saw a 1959 Custom Royal 4-dr sedan which was in fine #3 condition, but
which was sacrificed to restore
a basket case CRL convertible, after its swivel (power, IIRC)  seat was
removed.

I immediately noticed that the floor pan was virtually flat, compared to
the 57-58 models, which required that
DEEP  OEM floor troughs had to be welded into the floor pans, in order
to accept the power seat control-lifter
mechanisms.

Power bench seats WERE available in 1959 (Speed Age famously tested a
1959 CRL D500 convertible
with air suspension, and a power bench seat) .

I'm wondering if Nick's car might have 57-58 power seat
adjuster-mechanisms on it.

I retrofitted a 57 CHY power bench seat onto my car (complete with the
installation of its deep-troughs into
the floor pans) and always have its seat height residing at maximum
altitude---in this position, the seat
is not quite at "chair-height", but, there is not much room to slide my
legs under the steering wheel
and the seat cushion.

Once seated, the steering wheel is at a very nice angle-position, and my
head is well under
the headliner, and I am 5'10" .

i havent had to deal with a rusted floor for the past 20 or so
forwardlook cars so i know everything is in check and the variable is
the seat foam, on 1 58 plym i have about 1" clearance to the cieling
[at 6' tall] since i padded it very firm on the acct of drag racing,
another i did with stock thickness foam and i have almost 2.5" of
headroom, my all original 58 with survivor upholstery grants the same
2.5"ish headroom.

its a toss-up, but i'd lean towards acheiving a correct mounting
height- unless the upholsterer went out of control, its a little hard
to over pad a swivel seat than a typical bench- especially if they
used the original upholstery as a pattern.

This might be a long shot, but... the seats in the later MoPars, at
least the C bodies around '65 and after, had manual adjustments on the
front seat tracks. Two bolts and two slots to raise and lower and/or
move front or back. Maybe you could use that sort of seat track on
your '59.

My '59 Plymouth has swivel seats and the floor pans has been replaced
at some point. The front seat has been reupholstered and the seat
sits higher than it is supposed to, mainly because the floor pans are
sitting higher than the originals. Also, the seat being reupholstered
doesn't help, as the newer cushions are sitting higher than an old
worn down seat would. Anyone have any thoughts and how to lower the
seat without having to redo the floor pans?? Removing some cushion
material was all I could think of. I am 6 feet tall which causes my
head
to be right at the top of the headliner with the seat as is.

Any info greatly appreciated.
