John, you are offering to do a monumental job in organizing this tour - and
deserve a big Thank You (as well as a Wisconsin bear hug)!!
As you noted, you 'can't please everyone' but there may be a way to please many. Here's an idea that might work. If several tours, many of which you have described - north to/from south [east], north to/from south [midwest], north to/from south [west], east to/from west [north], east to/from west [south], and so on. Each could be scheduled to arrive at a common site - car show, museum, state or national park at a date that all could agree with. As to other clubs and groups, we should keep them similar to our interests - finned Exner Mopars from the late '50s and early '60s. The more cars we can recruit the better the chances are for our own show and a higher level of participation. I'm not sure how this all can be organized but your idea of regional managers to work with you is an excellent one and each of them can determine their most interesting layovers, local car shows and etc. The entire tour would most likely take at least a week to 10 days to complete culminating at the common site. The tour is an exciting idea and should end up being a fun-filled time for everyone as well as a chance for all of us to have a face-to-face meeing! Maine to California.LA to MN along Mississippi River AK to Argentina...yea, Argentina! Around Great Lakes, USA and Canada. FL to WA Route 66...(or has this been done to death???? as asked by a member) Start cruise in Europe, AUS, or ? Start cruise in Chicago or Des Moines area as it is central to the US Start cruise in June, July or August Have cruise in fall...color ride. Invite other Chrysler Dodge Plymouth DeSoto Fargo groups to join in.Try to keep muscle cars out or to a minimum ( I thought some of our cars are muscle cars!?)Put a limit on years the cars could beWhatever we choose to do it should be done with a charitable goal. Whether we as individuals find our own sponsors...per mile, one lump sum...etc Try for corporate sponsorship...ie: Chrysler, Dodge, Cummins, Featherlite trailers (trailer and truck use donated from corporations for charitable cause) Some oil or gas sponsorship, tire manufacturers, re pro parts supplier, local Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealers etc... Divide country into sections and have different hosts for the different areas...ie: such as Maine to FL and West to Western Ohio, IN to Western MN, SD West to WY, UT to WA or???Have cruise associated with several car shows.Start out with a momentum chosen by the group and handed from one group to another from coast to coast. Maybe a handmade award that could be given to the driver that tallies most miles at cruise end. Have several stops of interest lined up and names and locations of hotels motels.Should there be an entry fee? Photo shoots with major auto magazines Interviews set up along route with local TV and radioWell guys and gals, we have a lot of thinking to do. I said I would work on this and I plan on keeping my word. If we choose to break it down into sections, I think we would need section leaders to organize their part of the tour coinciding with the next leg. I will volunteer for the Midwest section. I also think we need a national chairperson/spokesperson. I will leave those decisions up to the group as a whole to decide.A logo incorporating the charity of our choiceOkay...I think I covered all, if not most of the ideas so far. Hash these around for a while and we can go from there. Remember...as if we didn't already know..."YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYBODY"!John in WI...30 deg cloudy and better than 20 below ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go tohttp://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1 ************************************************************* To unsubscribe or set your subscription options, please go to http://lists.psu.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=l-forwardlook&A=1
