Yes, interesting.
I was just reading, this morning, the newest issue of Hemmings Classic Car and a guy named Gus Constantinou from Bergenfield, NJ, commented about the 57 Eldorado he has with shaved fins.
I recall another story about a minister having the fins on his MoPar cut down as well as a car that was sent to some political figure overseas. As you stated, they felt the car was a little too "showy" for either a minister or a politician to drive. Maybe cutting the fins down wasn't all that uncommon and wasn't done in an effort to customize it, but to tone it down a little.
