I'll waste my time for you. I, too, thought that E85 was 85% Gasoline. It's 85% Ethanol. 15% gas. AND, it's all BS. Physics rears it's ugly head here. We deal with BTU's, and Gas gives out far more than Ethanol. So as we dilute the gas with a weaker replacement, we get less milage. But wait, they say, It costs less at the pump. Not where I live, (it just went up 10 cents a gal overnight now $2.71), but it's subsidized by the feds to the tune of 50 cents a gallon (of ethanol) to the ethanol industry. So they built plants, farmers grew junk corn for the plants and now they have vast stored amounts of ethanol and many companies have gone bankrupt with plants sitting idle There are at least 2 plants here in Arkansas shut down or have halted finishing them.
I get a big chuckle looking at the claimed milage on ebay with flex fuel cars and vans for sale. 27mpg with unleaded (10%) and 19mpg with E85. Somehow it just makes no sense.
But as a result, my beef, corn and many other products are more expensive now due to this stupidity.
Wanta have fun? check out how many gallons of Gas they get out of a 42 gal barrel of oil, without ethanol.. Besides ethanol, that gas has more crap added into it that is NOT gas, lowering milage more.
