I use a heat gun and a stiff, slightly sharpened 2" wide putty knife. Working outward from where the heat is pointed, the radiating heat as you move forward preheats the undercoating ahead, speeding a somewhat tedious process. Once peeled, fine cleanup can be done with solvents or even gasoline, but the heat gun/putty knife gets it pretty darned clean.

Using a torch is definitely out. Sandblasting may remove some, but I'd like to chemically remove all of it. Does anyone have a method that will disolve or at least soften the undercoating to the point that it'll come off easily with a putty knife ?
