John –
M Bodies use the same width Axle but the ratio is way different from 55-56 axle ratios. My 56 has a 3.73:1 while the M body (73-74 5th Ave ect) have 2.4:1. If you can change
the Ratio to a lower one, that would solve your Brake & Parking Brake Drum issue in 1 fell swoop.
Later.

Subject: [FWDLK] 1957 Dodge Rear Brakes
Anyone have a source for NOS or GOOD used rear brake drums for a 1957 Dodge Custom Royal?
**** OR ****
Can anyone point to the most compatible Mopar rear axle/brake assembly (circa late 60s to early 70s) that I can swap with the original?
Let me explain:
I just installed a disk brake conversion kit in the front and converted to a dual master cylinder (from a ’67 Dodge), but still need to replace the rear drums. The brakes are unique to Dodge for the 57-58 years only. From what I can find
out, these drums are not being reproduced. I can’t locate NOS drums, and the used ones I looked at are too far gone. So . . . my remaining option is to swap out the entire rear end, so I’ll have an easier time servicing the brakes. The car is in great shape,
but it’s not a trailer queen. I drive it – a LOT – so I need the brakes.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
