The essential facts on the D500-1 are that it was originally a racing
suspension upgrade to mostly Imperial parts and was introduced in December
a day after the original D500 Model. After several were built plans to upgrade
to a Dual Quad engine assembly were pursued and a prototype was debuted at
Daytona Speed Weeks by Danny Eames and parts were supplied to several
racers to upgrade to the Dual Quad intake setup. The intake itself was supplied
to Dodge by Mercury Outboards and was cast aluminum with no exhaust crossover
provision. The factory documents show the initial order was for 100 intakes, The
complete Dual Four Barrel Carburetor Group engine assembly
was announced shortly after Speed Weeks, March 9th 1956 at a cost of
425.00. This assembly included a low restriction 2 1/2 inch exhaust system. It
is not known how many cars received the engine assembly but it is safe to say it
is extremely rare and facts would point to less than 100 and probably
far less. A parts list from Dodge was available and has circulated that outlines
the "supplemental parts" used to create the D500-1 and a separate one outlines
the Dual Four Barrel Carburetor Group Engine Assembly. There should be little
doubt in the proper restoration or recreation of a D500-1 as the information can
be obtain from several members on this list. Thanks Tim in
