the listing states new not NOS so I think I am going to buy these. I have the same thoughts as you Dave. My set up is power with disks up front I put in new wheel cylinders the rears and noticed that one side the cylinder was sticking and worn the shoe down more than on the other side.

I also bought a new set of parking brake shoes from these guys, how big of a job is it to replace those?

11 x 2 : Yes, mostly. There was a 12 x 2 option (non-D500), but I have never seen one. Some cheaper Plymouths were 10 x 2.

Typically, older shoes had a lining not intended for power brakes, as only a small percentage had power in the 50s. Older shoes probably use asbestos, possibly the best material ever used for standard street used brakes. Currently banned by the DOT.

Modern linings are typically for power brakes, since power is now nearly 100 % on all newer cars. PB lining materials are harder so they last longer, but require more pressure to work. With a power system, this is no problem. With a non-power system, this can require high pedal pressure, or both feet in a panic stop. This is why I converted my car to power brakes.

Consult a good brake shop to see if they have a lining suitable for non-power. Locally here in Minnesota, I use the Brake & Equipment Warehouse.

Are all rear brake shoes on a 56 dodge (non D-500) 11"X2"?
