I took the Valvoline guys comment to be that "spring through fall" included summer and that thick oil was ok for those temperatures but not recommended for winter. Jim Delton

Yes, I agree that is seeming odd to specify Spring through Fall;
additionally, to omit Summer and “warm weather” driving where a 50wt. is most
necessary. Perhaps the assumed we would know a 20-50wt. is good for
Summer/high heat driving.

Interesting
that Valvoline confirmed Spring-thru-Fall usage. This past winter, when
the temperature was down into the 30's (F)/0's(C) the car was hard to start,
