Re: [FWDLK] Reverb Units

The dealer put a factory 6x9 speaker in the right rear side panel since there’s obviously no rear parcel shelf.

I have a “Stereo Magic” underdash brand in my 1966 Belvedere convertible.  Appears to be made by Bendix.  The original owner got it shortly after she bought the car.  The knob looks just like the rear speaker underdash factory knob.  The sound is somewhat less than optimum, especially driving with the top down.  Sounds best playing 60s surf music. The car has a 66 factory Chrysler AM/FM radio installed by the dealer.  [Only the C bodies came with AM/FM radios.]

Matters not. Radios in those days were mostly mono, same sound to all speakers, either am only or am/fm.

The reverbs made non-stereo (mono) sound like stereo. Gave the sound a echo effect.

Was pretty trick for it's time.

Fern is rght, the purpose of the units were to make Mono sound like Stereo.

They added a slight delay to the sound going to one side after the other.

You would not want to hook one of those reverbs to your existing radio.

To start with they were meant for mono (non stereo radio) which had only approximately 5 watts of audio.

I do have a complete spare reverb unit meant for 1965 chrysler.

I presently have a factory reverb in my 1965 300L 2 dr ht.

I remember them in early gm cars that made a funny Boinnnnnn when he would hit a bump in the road.

Question is, would anyone be willing to sell me a working unit? Would love to wire it up in my Magnum.

I'm serious.

This might apply more to those like myself who grew up in the 60s, but does anyone remember the Reverberation Units that cars had back then?  My best buddy in HS had a 64 Impala that had a reverb unit in the rear, and my memory tells me that it was soooooo cool.  Better sound than a stereo speaker.

Seems that the guitars were more vibrant and the drums (most songs back then were heavy on guitars and drums) more lively.  Or, is it my memory?

Does anyone have a reverb unit in their car?  If so, how is it?  I have a couple units and are tempted to have one placed in my 71 Gran Coupe Fury or 74 Charger.....
