Re: [FWDLK] Petronix 59 Plymouth 6 cyl

Happy Holidays All,
More than likely there was a different distributor used in those years and Pertronix doesn’t support that distributor.
Which means switch to a later distributor- 1960- up or see who else used that distributor.  Maybe pertronix doesn’t know it’s the same.
Wasn’t 60 the first year of the alternator instead of a generator?  And there was the 6 volt to 12 volt switch during the 50’s too.  That could also be a contributing factor.
You may have to convert to an alternator and then use the later distributor.
Or, you could just do this:
or

Or just google the conversion.
I’ve converted several 318-340-360 powered mopars.  Mainly because I can’t trust the cheap Chinese ignition boxes anymore.
Been stuck dead on the side of the road more than once.
I can’t find them at most auto parts stores anymore, but I can always find a GM HEI module for cheap in a pinch.

Good luck,
Charles.

I wonder why '51-'59 6s would be excepted...it's basically the same engine...but slight adjustments in displacement and compression ratio....

The on-line Pertronix catalogue lists applications for:

1928 - 1950 6 cyl
1960 - 1983 6 cyl
nothing for 1951 - 1959 flat 6.
