I've done it multiple times. I have the tool that I bought from Eastwood 25 years ago. Quality tools last. https://www.eastwood.com/flanger-and-hole-punch-combination-tool.html You'll also need clecos and cleco pliers. https://www.eastwood.com/panel-holding-system.html There are a lot of videos on YouTube that will show you how this works. https://youtu.be/wm6Ec71ftB0 that's just one of them. I've never tried to glue the panel on. I've always welded the holes shut to attach the panel then leaded (yes, that lead) and filed the seam. You could use plastic filler as well but I prefer to use metal on metal. I would recommend filler if you've never used lead. It's an art form getting lead right. Take your time and do it right the first time. It's one of the few jobs I'd consider farming out though as it can be tricky and is time consuming. -------- Original message -------- From: Larry Ashbaugh <000003991ab8a71e-dmarc-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Date: 2/25/20 21:11 (GMT-05:00) To: L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [FWDLK] Quarter Panel Flange Recommendations Appears that I am going to be replacing the rotted lower rear quarter body panels on my 64 Barracuda. I have already purchased the panels, and now need to look for something to flange the panels for welding. I would think that a pneumatic tool would be best.
Any recommendations on brands or models that you have used on your Mopars? I know that our older Mopars have heavier-gauge steel than modern cars, so that is a consideration. The brands I see on Amazon have both flange and punch capabilities. Useful? Also, have any of you used a flange to weld or use automotive panel adhesive for installing quarters? Pluses or minuses for either? Welding is not my strong suit. Thanks for any insight you all may have. Better to ask before, than to ask what went wrong later.... Larry (Akron)
