Re: {Chrysler 300} 1964 300K- Original Transmission just went out today

727 are so good, brutally strong, 200k no  problem. The cast iron ones are ok, but not really up to it if you beat them. This one is barely broken in. Something weird happened to cause this. On the surface, it  sounds like slow loss of 90 psi line pressure. Pump /gov, assuming pickup and filter ok? This can be diagnosed readily and rebuilt. Plus it is rather a specialized  mechanical configuration of 727. Remember the first year 727 was in the HRM special 300H that  went 12.88 at NHRA nationals .Ray Brock  had ZERO transmission problems, all stock. Best it unmercifully all the way to the final race.
I do not think restricted in line filters can do this if K still had them, that is lube pressure . MR 300K Don Cole sure beat on his in the day., I don't think any issues. George R too in that very fast J (had to be a 440+ ,laugh). I really hit on it in a 70 Challeger RT 440 , no problems
And I like the no part throttle kick down valve body of the earlier trans. It shifted really fast and hard, nice chirp , and real passing gear , later they softened all that.
If you can get in ,always busy, get A and A to rebuild with some  improved "problem pieces" sprag mostly, stronger pinions  . They build those 7 second Hemi transmissions

Dark and not good….It’s the original transmission and it’s never been gone thru.  59,000 miles….For what its worth its leaked since I’ve had the car….It started shifting sluggish and was slow to build pressure from neutral to drive or reverse.  Also you would have to let off the throttle for it to shift.  I then drained a quart of the fluid and added some Lucas Trans-Fix Goo.  Basically died right after that

Is the fluid clear or dark? How does it smell?

Hello, Can someone advise if a later Big Block 727 Torqueflite will fit in a 64' 300K with the console mounted shifter?  I'd like to install a later single pump Torqueflite in the car.  Will the stock trans linkage work or does it require modification?  Is the later Torqueflite the same length or will I need the crossmember and driveshaft modified?  Anything else I would need to know before tackling?

I have no forward or reverse gears and the transmission was whining at all speeds prior.  RIP ole' girl....

Thanks!!!  James
