I have a 300D Fuel Injection. It has, of course, been converted to twin Carter 4 barrel carburettor. According to Gloria Moon, 9 300D FI cars are known to survive. Chrysler records show that that 16 were built, a figure disputed by the DeSoto plant manager - where the cars were coverted to the Bendix Electrojector system. I think he claimed that 35 cars were converted, but most people believe the official microfiche records. I would be interested to know of other 300D owners on-line. If anyone has seen it at Carlisle or the Chrysler show will agree its in pretty great shape and pretty much original. The chrome all shines and the car drives great. If anyone is interested in adding a nice original driver to their stable, give me a email. I have to sell the car, although i hate to do it. The car comes with an amazing amount of original paperwork from the orignal windowsticker to all the original pay stubs for the registration, tax, and more. For pictures you can go here: http://www.scatpack.com/300rv.html Take a look at the pictures anyway! Im asking $3500 and I am talking a loss. If interested, send me an email. We are intending to make Big Yellow an excellent driver with potential for show - but we want the reliability factor. That brings us to the question - do we convert to alternator or have the generator rebuilt? Other than originality, what's the downside of converting? The car will be driven less than 5000 per year, probably never more that 3 hours from home in Los Angeles, CA. Louis M. The stamp reads as follows: USE ONLY 3/4 REACH SPARK PLUG IN THIS ENGINE Below the word engine there is a diagram of a spark plug with the measurement of what the reach should look like. I will try and get a good digital pic of it. Alternator I wanted the reliability and availability of an alternator, and the advantage of 15" wheels, which is why I got a 61 G instead. (I even got rid of the toilet seat in the process) But seriously, if you're on the road on a Saturday and the needle points to 'discharge', you'll have much better luck at NAPA or PEP BOYS when asking for an alternator than a generator. I'm assuming that you don't get parts for these, just make something that will work? I know it won't be original, but seems like the odds of finding "good" ones would be pretty slim. True or not? Mine in an Ohio car with 120,000 miles on it, so I don't think being original is vital at this point. Just trying to keep it on the road, but if good mounts are out there, or there are other ideas I'd love to hear about them. Alternator - 2 cents answer Hi Louis, Somewhere in a back issue of the Club News, I think there's a tech article by Dan Reitz ( dan300f@xxxxxxx) about how to convert a 300F to alternator..... That said, considering the light usage the car will be getting, I'd strongly suggest keeping it original. If you're not going to be travelling more than 300 miles away from home, and the car stops charging, you can make it back home on your battery, and , worse case scenario, stop at any auto parts store and buy another battery. Please do remember that these generator equipped cars travelled 10's of thousands of miles with their generators... and there's no reason that a well-rebuilt generator can't keep on performing the way it was intended. I have a '60 Windsor driver-type car here, used quite often, still equipped with generator, never a problem with it, starts everytime and runs and runs... If you're going to err, please err on the side of authenticity. You'll never regret it. Last comment ( and not knowing your car..) : Greg Leggatt sells wonderful brand-new and authentic and carefully made wiring harnesses for many years 300's including , of course, the 300F. You might be better off spending a few bucks on replacing the wiring harness, at least the main one, if it's been butchered up or is just plain old and tired. That will go a lot further in terms of ensuring reliability than converting to an alternator ! leggatt@xxxxxxx is his e-mail address.. Alternator - 2 cents answer Hi Louis, I'll have to agree with John here. For a change. And, I'll add: you can always pick up a spare generator and carry it with you on longer trips. Doesn't take up much room, and it's not too hard to change on the road. If you get your generator gone through by a reputable auto electric shop it should give you many years of service. Good luck with the resto. Andy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Find the one for you at Yahoo!
